Freidel's style of basketball play at Augustana; he joins the Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. Pat was the point guard on the 1988-89 NCC
championship team; winning the conference title in the newly-opened Elmen Center with a 93-88 win over NDSU is his most memorable event. As a senior, Pat was MVP of the NCC Holiday Tournament, All-NCC, all-North Central Region, and honorable mention All-American. During his four years, the Vikings played in three North Central Regional playoffs.
An unrelenting defender and ball-handler, Pat is the career assists leader with 647 and the career leader in steals with 291. On the NCC charts, he is still the leader with 171 steals and is second with 427 assists. His total of 19 assists against NDSU in 1988 remains a single game record, along with his 1987-88 season total of 240 assists. He is tied for first with seven steals against the St. Cloud State Huskies in 1988, and holds the single season steal record of 104. Many of those steals became baskets, much to the dismay of his opponents. Pat
scored 1065 points, currently at 18th on the career scoring list.
Pat wrote that "Every SDSU game was probably one of our biggest games." Personal influences in his life include his Armour High School coach Burnell Glanzer, his brothers, and his mother Mary Mimmack. Pat also wrote about Pastor Pete; "The first time I met him I knew I was going to Augie."
