Roland "Rollie" A. Larson, a native of Rapid City, earned three football letters after playing freshman ball. He was an all-conference catcher with the Vikings baseball team, competed for two years with the basketball team and was a member of the 1963-64 wrestling team.

Used mostly as a reserve until his senior year, Larson was the starting quarterback as a senior. He came into his own with 137 yards rushing and 881 yards passing (completing 56% of his aerials). He set a school record with 317 passing yards against St. Norberts College and the longest pass play, an 80-yard completion against Youngtown University, in 1963. In baseball he hit for .333 in his senior year and was chosen All-NCC.

Larson was graduate assistant while earning a master's degree at Bemidji State of Minnesota and later served as head wrestling coach and assistant in football at Augustana.

In 1981, Larson was nominated for "National Golf Coach of the Year" for South Dakota and has been involved in church and school activities.
