S. A. Glaim was a four year letterman in football for the Vikings, playing for Coaches Paul Dee and L. A. "Lefty" Olson from 1930-33. He was a blocking back as a freshman under Dee but was switched to guard on both offense and defense by Olson.
In his final two years, he helped lead the Vikings to their very first two SDIC Conference championships, with a 6-1 (5-0 SDIC) record in 1932 and a 5-2 (4-0 in SDIC outscoring opponents 110-1) record in 1933.
Sam, who was a history major and member of the honorary Thucydian history society, was also a member of the International Relations Club during its first year of existence on the Augustana campus. He competed in track for two years and was a four year member of the "A" team.
He became a teacher and coach at Chamberlain following his graduation and later moved to Rapid City where he was business manager of the school system for m any years before his retirement.
Sam was very active in his church and community events such as scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts.
