Scot Shaft was the Viking quarterback from 1979-1982, and earned all-NCC honorable mention recognition three times.
Against SDSU in 1981, Scot set four school records for passing. He passed for five touchdowns, a record he shares with two other quarterbacks. His 360 yards passing stands as the single game record, as well as an 86-yard pass (to Jeff Rusk) as the longest pass from scrimmage. His 23 pass completions in that game broke a 12-year record of completions.
He was the total offense leader for the team in 1979 with 1462 yards, in 1980 with 1509 yards and in 1981 with the 1142 yards. He completed 55% of his passes in 1979; was the NCC's top passer with an average of 13.1 completions and 163 yards per game in 1980; and was second in the NCC in 1981 with 11.3 completions per game.
Scot majored in Speech Communications and graduated in 1982.
