Shaun Hickman anchored some outstanding Augustana basketball teams from his guard position in the 1980's. At times, his leadership and outstanding defensive ability might have gone unnoticed by the fans in the stands. However, his teammates and opposing players knew the value of this great teammate.

Shaun arrived at Augustana a highly recruited standout from Milwaukee, WI. He quickly displayed the skills that would lead the Vikings to four straight winning seasons. The final game of the 1984-85 season he led the Vikings with 18 points and 4 steals. The Vikings finished with a 16-12 record that season and finished well above .500 the next three. In 1985-86 Augustana was 19-11 with a runner-up finish in the North Central Conference. Augustana was 19-9 in 1986-87. Shaun saved his best year for last when he led the Vikings to a 20-10 record.

At one point during the 1987-88 season the Vikings were 15-2 and ranked third in the nation when center Darwin Klaassen injured a knee and was lost for the season. It was the highest national ranking in the history of Augustana men's basketball. Despite the loss of Klaassem, Shaun led the Vikings to the regional playoffs.  Also during that season Shaun was named the most valuable player of the NCC Holiday Basketball Tournament and was the only Viking named to the All-NCC team.

Shaun is on the school career scoring list with 993 points. He is among the top 3-point shooters with 47.1 percent success. He is on the leader board with assists (419) and steals (146).

Some of Shaun's fondest memories are of the Holiday Basketball Tournament and battles against the St. Cloud State University Huskies and his high school buddy, Reggie Perkins. He also remembers tipping in a game winning shot against UND his freshman year.
