Shelly holds career records in four categories for women's basketball. Her 906 career point total puts her in the top 15 scorers and her 356 rebound total is a top 20 effort. Her total of 408 assists is still on the career charts. She also claims the record for assists in a game with 13 against St. Louis University.

As a senior, Shelly scored a career high 23 points in their 80-70 win over SDSU; as with all Vikings, beating the Jacks is a memorable highlight. Shelly had many memorable events at Augie, she says, and has tales of "interesting" road trips during the South Dakota winters.

Shelly received the Ms. Hustle Award for the 1982-83 season, and was co-captain during her junior and senior seasons. She was a four-year starter. Shelly graduated from Augustana in 1984.
