Terry Egger came to Augustana a quarterback and left as a record-breaking wide receiver. In two seasons, after making the switch, Terry averaged 16.6 yards per reception and set the Augustana career record for total yards receiving with 1,515. He broke three school records his junior year and was ranked nationally with 5.1 receptions per game. He was named to the All-NCC team in 1977 and was the league's leading receiver.

His senior year, he was named team captain for the Vikings. An exceptional student as well, Terry was an All-Academic NCC selection. He was also named to the first team Lutheran All-American team. Terry was recruited by head coach Ralph Starenko. He recalled his early days at Augie when he wrote, "I'll always remember how much special attention the coaches gave while they were recruiting you; then, almost acting like they didn't know us, the rookies, when we showed up as freshmen." He added, "I'll also always remember how sad I felt walking off the field after the final game as a senior. In between, we beat a lot of teams and really established Augie football as a power in the NCC. We also had a lot of fun!"
