The 22nd-ranked Augustana volleyball was clicking on all cylinders in crushing Minnesota, Crookston in 3 sets, 25-20, 25-18, 25-12, Saturday in Crookston, Minn.
A day after recording its best offensive performance of the season, the Vikings hit a season-best .362 as they improved to 15-6 overall and 8-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Minnesota, Crookston, meanwhile fell to 2-16 overall and 2-7 in the NSIC.
Augustana pounded 46 kills in the match with just 8 errors on 105 attacks. Eight different Vikings recorded kills and six of them hit over .350.
Minnesota, Crookston, stayed close with the Vikings early in each of the first 2 sets, but the Golden Eagles were no match for the Viking attack.
Augustana hit .444 in the first set despite committing half of their errors in that set. The Vikings cranked it up again in the third set when they had 18 kills and only 2 errors.
Cayla Schroeder led Augustana as she collected 11 kills and 13 digs, both of which were team highs. Beth Talcott joined her in double figures with 10 kills. Talcott hit .409, while Schroeder hit .375. Brianna Erickson added 12 digs, while Blythe Johnson had a hand in 7 of the Vikings' 9 blocks.
Augustana, winners of five straight matches, will be in action on Wednesday when they travel to Nebraska-Omaha for a non-conference match.
