Augustana Soccer Makes History With 1-0 Victory Over Minnesota State

BOX SCORE

The Augustana soccer team collected their biggest win in school history by surpassing the record for wins in a season, beating No. 15 Minnesota State 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Yankton Trail Park.

The Vikings recorded a school-record ninth win of the season under head coach Brandon Barkus, as Augie moved to 9-3-1 and 6-2-0 in the NSIC. The Mavericks, who were No. 2 in the NSIC before the weekend, suffered their first loss of the season in NSIC play.

Augustana scored the only goal of the game at the 69:38 mark when freshman Raelyn Walczak made a pass from the right corner of the Mavericks zone in front of net to senior Katelyn Ley who headed it passed the Mavericks goalkeeper for her second goal of the season.

It was Walczak's third assist of the season and Ley tied Katie Shandri and Jill Goodrich for the most game-winning goals on the team with her second of the season.

Augie put up 10 shots in the game, four of which were on goal against the Mavericks (8-2-2, 6-1-1 NSIC) goalkeeper.

Senior Lisa Jarovski made seven saves in net for Augie, adding to her team-record 21st win and eighth shutout of her career.

The Vikings will move on to play Southwest Minnesota State (1-11-0, 1-7-0 NSIC) Sunday at Yankton Trail Park.
