The Augustana women's soccer team recorded their school-record eighth shutout of the season in a 2-0 win over Southwest Minnesota State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Sunday at Yankton Trail Park.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Mikhaila Baltes recorded her second shutout and third win of the season for Augustana (10-3-1, 7-2-0 NSIC) after making 10 saves against the Mustangs (1-12-0 1-8-0 NSIC) .
She currently leads the team with 51 saves, allowing just three goals in seven games played this season.
On the offensive side, Augie recorded a season-high 29 shots in the game. Fourteen of the shots were put on the Mustangs' goalkeeper.
The first score of the game came quickly at the 5:49 mark when sophomore
Lisa Shirk scored on a pass in front of the net from senior
Katelyn Ley. It was Shirk's third goal of the season and it was Ley's first assist as an Augustana player.
Shirk is tied with three other Augie players for a team-high two game-winning goals this season.
The second goal of the game came shortly after the first, when sophomore
Katie Shandri connected with junior
Kayla Peek for her first goal of the season at the 13:19 mark. The assist gave Shandri three on the season.
Freshman
Katie Bowman took a team high six total shots and three shots on goal.
The Vikings will go on the road next weekend for the final time during the regular season. Augustana travels to Crookston, Minn., to take on Minnesota, Crookston (2-12-1, 1-8-0 NSIC) on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Vikings conclude their road trip at Minnesota State Moorhead on Sunday at 1 p.m.
