Augustana football player
Matt Lien has been named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Augustana's 41-38 overtime victory over Minnesota State University, Mankato, on Saturday.
Lien,
a 6-3, 215-pound senior linebacker from Duluth, Minn., had a big day defensively in leading Augustana past Minnesota State. Lien had 8 solo tackles and 4 assists for 12 total tackles. He also had 2 quarterback hurries and intercepted a pass late in the fourth quarter that stopped a potential game-winning drive for the Mavericks.
Lien is the third Viking to earn NSIC Player of the Week honors.
Brian Baumgartner was tabbed Defensive Player of the Week on September 2 and
Joe Clark was the Offensive Player of the Week on September 29.
Augustana improved to 4-2 on the season and 4-1 in the NSIC with the victory over Minnesota State. In addition, the Vikings took over sole possession of the lead in the NSIC Southern Division with a 2-0 record.
The Vikings will be at home again this week when they entertain Southwest Minnesota State University in a 1 p.m. contest at Howard Wood Field.
