Cayla Schroeder had a nearly flawless night as she went over 1,000 career kills in leading No. 21 Augustana to a three-set sweep of Bemidji State Friday night in Bemidji, Minn. The set scores were 25-22, 26-24, 25-19.
With the win Augustana improved to 20-9 overall and moved 12-4 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Bemidji State slipped to 6-23 overall and 2-15 in the NSIC.
Schroeder, a senior outside hitter from Kasson, Minn., pounded a match-high 18 kills and had a .643 attack percentage (18 kills, 0 errors, 28 attacks) in leading Augustana to its first 20-win season since 2003.
The Vikings hit over .300 in every set as they had a team attack percentage of .330 (50 kills, 13 errors, 112 attacks).
In the first set, the score was tied 6-6 when Augustana used a 10-3 run to gain control of the set at 16-9.
The second set saw Bemidji State open up a 14-10 lead midway through the set before Augsutana rallied to tie the scored at 18-18. The remainder of the set was tight before
Ellen Andrews and
Kati Newgard unleashed back-to-back kills to close out the set.
Augustana also finished the third set in a strong fashion. After trailing 10-5, the Vikings went on a 11-6 rally to knot the score at 16-16. From there, Augustana outscored BSU 7-1 to seize the momentum at 23-17.
Andrews joined Schroeder in double figures in kills with 13, while Newgard hit .389 with 7 kills and 0 errors on 18 attacks. Setter

Augustana concludes the weekend road trip on Saturday by facing No. 17 Minnesota Duluth in a 4 p.m. match in Duluth.
