Augustana Men's Basketball Earns First NSIC Win Over Undefeated Northern State 79-71

After dropping a 14 point lead in the second half, the Augustana men's basketball team was able to hold on to earn its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win, beating an undefeated Northern State Wolves team in overtime 79-71 Saturday night in Aberdeen, S.D.

With the win, Augustana moves to 5-2 on the season and now 1-1 in NSIC play, while the Wolves dropped their first game of the season and are now 7-1 and 1-1 in NSIC play.

The win snaps the Vikings two-game winless streak on the road this season.

The Vikings were able to get two key three-pointers from David Foster and Marques Blank and a layup from Eric Krogman in overtime to get up by five points early and never looked back to close out the game.

In the first half, Augustana shot 14-of-26 for 54 percent from the field as they were lead by freshman Cody Schilling who had a career-high 21 points and eight rebounds in the game. Krogman also had 11 points and 14 rebounds in the game, while Foster scored 10 points and added 2 rebounds.

Augustana shot 44 percent (26-for-59) from the field for the game, 79.2 percent (19-for-24) from the free throw line and 38.1 percent (8-for-21) from three-point range. Before the game, Augustana was shooting 31 percent from three-point range for the season.

Ratzch led all scorers in the contest with 24 points on the night, and the Wolves shot 38.8 percent from the field on the night. The Wolves also only took three free throws in the final 25 minutes, going 11-11 in the game.

Augustana will play non-NSIC opponent Dakota State University Tuesday night at 8 p.m. in the Elmen Center. The Trojans are 4-7 this season and 0-1 in Dakota Athletic Conference play.
