The Augustana volleyball team capped a perfect weekend with two more wins on Saturday to capture the Texas MedClinic Invitational in San Antonio, Texas. The Vikings swept Rollins (Fla.) 26-24, 26-24, 25-17 before sweeping host St. Mary's 25-23, 25-6, 26-24 to finish the weekend with a 4-0 record.
Augustana, ranked 20th in the nation in Division II, continued to rely on its balanced offensive attack on Saturday. The Vikings hit .240 (55 kills, 19 errors, 150 attempts) against Rollins and .258 (45 kill, 13 errors, 124 attempts) against St. Mary's en route to the wins.
Against Rollins,
Cayla Schroeder pounded a team high 16 kills, while
Kati Newgard chipped in with 12.
Lisa Hoegh, who was named the Tournament MVP, was the team's catalyst as she dished out 44 assists to go along with a team-high 16 digs. Schroeder also had a double-double with 12 digs.
Regan Tekavec tallied 13 digs, while
Beth Talcott and
Brianna Erickson added 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
In the St. Mary's match, Augustana won a close first set before dominating the second. In the second set, Augustana had 10 kills with 0 errors on 22 attacks. Meanwhile, St. Mary's had just 6 kills and 10 errors.
Newgard was the only Viking in double figures in kills with 12. Hoegh passed out 35 assists. Talcott led the team in digs with 19, while Erickson added 11.
Newgard and Talcott joined Hoegh on the All-Tournament Team.
The Vikings return to action next weekend when they travel to Denver for the Colorado Premier Challenge.
