The Augustana women's soccer team made history Saturday, when it put together a school record third straight shutout in row with a 2-0 win over Southwest Minnesota State (0-4-0) in Marshall, Minn.
In a game that did not see many shots on goal for both sides, Augustana (3-1-1) allowed only two shots on goal and five shots total during the entire game, with the starting senior goalkeeper Lisa Jarovski and Mikhaila Baltes sharing time in between the nets for Augie.
Jarovski and Baltes each played a half in net for Augie, and both made one save to preserve the third consecutive Augie shutout.
Vikings' goalkeepers have made a habit out of keeping opponents out of the net this season, as they have recorded six shutout periods in eight periods of play, while adding two scoreless overtime periods against CSU Pueblo in the first game of the season.
Jarovski has recorded 16 saves on the season, while Baltes has recorded 21, to give up only three goals and record a .925 save percentage this season.
On the offensive side for Augie, sophomore Jenna Doerneman scored her first goal of the season and the game-winner on a header at the 22:12 mark of the first half after receiving a corner kick from sophomore Stephanie Goos. For Goos, it was her second assist this season.
The Vikings put the game out of reach when sophomore Katie Shandri scored her team-leading fourth goal of the season on a penalty kick at the 72:12 mark of the second half after the Mustangs were called for their eighth foul of the half.
Augustana put up 13 total shots in the game, with eight coming in the first half and five in the second. Augie also had seven corner kick opportunities in the game.
The team will again be on the road next weekend at conference opponents St. Cloud State and Concordia University, St. Paul.
