The Augustana volleyball team lost back-to-back matches for the second straight night as the Vikings dropped matches to Concordia University, St. Paul (25-22, 25-23, 16-25, 25-13) and Central Washington (25-20, 25-16, 20-25, 25-22) at the Concordia University Radisson-Roseville Tournament Saturday in St. Paul, Minn.
The Vikings hung with Concordia in the early match, losing two tight games and taking the third. However, Concordia put together a 20-8 run to win the fourth and deciding game. The Vikings posted an overall attack percentage of .122 to Concordia's .217. Concordia also posted 60 kills to the Vikings' 41.
Kati Newgard and Cayla Schroeder led the Vikings in kills with nine and eight, respectively. Alex Burke tallied seven with a .538 attack percentage. Schroeder led Augie with 16 digs, while Lisa Hoegh and Brianna Erickson recorded 10 a piece.
The second match mirrored the first, with Central Washington posting quick wins to take the early 2 game lead. The Vikings fought back, taking the third game 25-20, but Central Washington closed out the fourth, posting an early 4-0 lead that it would not relinquish.
Schroeder and Ellen Andrews led the Vikings with 13 kills a piece, while Burke and Newgard each posted 11. Burke again led the Vikings with a .562 attack percentage. Five Vikings tallied double-digit digs, including Erickson (16), Schroeder (15), Jenna Hultgren (15), Hoegh (14), and Beth Talcott (11).
After three straight weekends of tournaments, the Vikings open the conference season at home with a match against Minnesota State on Tuesday. The match begins at 7 p.m.
