Defense Leads the Way for Augustana Women's Soccer

Box Score

The Augustana women's soccer team faced an aggressive St. Cloud State offense, but it was the Vikings' defense that made the big plays to lead Augie to a 1-0 win over the Huskies Saturday afternoon in St. Cloud, Minn.

Despite SCSU holding a big edge in total shots, the game was scoreless until the final 3 minutes of regulation when Augie scored the only goal of the game at the 87:01 mark. The goal came from sophomore defender Jill Goodrich, this week's NSIC Defensive Player of the Week, who headed a corner kick in net from Stephanie Goos for her first goal of the season and Goos' third assist this year.

The goal was the only shot Goodrich put on net all day and second shot that she has recorded all season long.

Senior goalkeeper Lisa Jarovski was in net the entire game for Augie and made seven saves in the game.

The Vikings were outshot 20-6 in the game, including 11-1 in the first half. But the Vikings increased the pressure on the Huskies' goalkeeper late in the game as they preserved their fourth win in a row.

With the win, the Vikings made history for the second-straight week after putting together a school-record fourth-straight shutout. The shutout also tied the school record for shutouts in a season.

Augustana will try to set the school record on Sunday at Concordia- St. Paul. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
