The Augustan women's soccer team got back to its winning ways Sunday afternoon, beating NSIC opponent Northern State 2-1 at Yankton Trail Park.
The Vikings (6-2-1, 3-1-0 NSIC) got on the board first at the 40:21 mark when sophomore Stephanie Goos made her team-leading sixth assist of the year on a corner kick that was headed in by freshman Kate Timmons for her second goal of the year.
Goos has made a habit of recording assists off corner kicks. Five of her six assists on the season have come via corner kicks. She has also recorded an assist in six straight games.
The Wolves (5-5-0, 1-2-0 NSIC) came out of halftime with a goal of their own at the 57:43 mark off a wide open shot from Kaylee McDonald. For Augie goalkeeper Mikhaila Baltes it was only her second goal allowed in 364 minutes and 47 second in net.
With seven minutes remaining it looked as if the two teams would be playing for overtime, but Katelyn Ley and Katie Bowman hooked up for the game-wnning goal at the 83:24 mark. Bowman sent a pass across the box to Ley, a transfer from the University of New Mexico, who put in the first goal of her Augie career.
Baltes ended the game with 9 saves , giving her a .941 save percentage for the season.
The Vikings will play at home again next Sunday when they play host to the Wayne State Wildcats (0-10-1) at 3 p.m. at Yankton Trail Park.
