Box Score

For the second night in a row, the Augustana women's basketball team went into overtime and again the Vikings were successful, earning their biggest win of the season 95-89 over the previously undefeated No. 3 Minnesota State Mavericks Friday night in Mankato, Minn.

After the Mavericks missed a 3-pointer with 10 seconds to go in overtime, senior Whitney Hofer  grabbed the rebound and was instantly fouled. She was able to make both free throws with 5 seconds remaining to put the game out of reach for MSU.

With the win, the Vikings improve to 14-4 and 8-3 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, while the Mavericks are 17-1 overall and 10-1 in the NSIC.

The Vikings had a chance late in the second half to seal the victory as Chelsea DeVille made consecutive free throws with 12 second to go to put the Vikings up 80-77, but 4 seconds later Tiffany Moe made a devastating 3-pointer for MSU to send the game into overtime.

Despite shooting a perfect 21-21 from the free throw line in regulation, the Mavericks missed 3 free throws in overtime as the Vikings finished 9 of 10 from the line down the stretch to ice the victory.

Megan Doyle scored 29 points to lead the Vikings, while grabbing 5 rebounds and dishing out 4 assists.

Hofer earned her fourth double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, as Ashlie Traynor scored a season-high 5 points while making her first 3-pointer of the season.

Augie shot 45 percent from the field on 31 of 69 shooting while going 24-27 from the free throw line.

The Mavericks shot 43 percent on 28 of 65 shooting, as the Vikings held the Mavericks bench to just 1 point and while outrebounding MSU 42 to 36.

Joanne Noreen was nearly perfect for the Mavericks, scoring a career-high 39 points on 11 of 14 shooting, while going 15-15 from the free throw line and recorded 8 steals.

The Vikings had a cold start to the first half but battled back and put together a 14-0 run in the final 3:41 of the half that was capped off by a Doyle buzzer beater to lead the Mavericks 38-29 going into halftime.

Augie earned their first lead of the game at 5-4 just 1:56 into the game, but it was short lived as the Mavericks regained the lead back 5 seconds later.

From that point, MSU had control of the game and got up by as many as 9 points, but after an Augie timeout at the 3:41 mark down 24-29, the Vikings began a late half run.

In the final 2 minutes, the Vikings scored 10 points while regaining the lead back at the 1:48 mark on a Doyle 3-pointer.

Augie kept things going to start the second half making their first 3 shots to earn the largest lead of the game at 10 with the score 46-36 just 2 minutes into the half.

But the Mavericks fought back to tie the game up at 54-54 with 11:16 to go when Noreen made a jump shot to set a new personal career-high with 29 points.

MSU got the lead back with 7:12 left to go, and from there both teams went back and forth at each other through 14 lead changes and 3 ties to send the game into overtime at 80-80.

Augustana will continue return home next weekend to entertain Concordia-St. Paul (13-8, 5-6 NSIC) at 6 p.m. Friday in the Elmen Center.
