Augie Soccer Ends in Scoreless Tie with Upper Iowa

Box Score

The Augustana soccer team posted its fifth tie of the season Sunday as they ended 0-0 against Upper Iowa in double overtime. This marks the fourth scoreless tie for the Vikings this season.

Augie moves to 4-5-5 on the season and 1-2-4 in the NSIC. Upper Iowa is now 7-6-2 and 3-3-1 in conference play.

The Vikings nearly took a lead in the first half when a header by Katlyn Bowman hit the crossbar at the 28:12 mark. Augie had eight corner kick opportunities in the game but were unable to score on any of them.

In the second half, the Vikings took 16 shots, including one by sophomore Stacy Dally that was tipped up and over the goal by Upper Iowa's goalkeeper Melissa Heitzman at 53:36. The Vikings continued to push on offense, but Heizman continued to make the necessary saves. Freshman Sheila Grogan blasted a high shot with less than four minutes left in regulation, but Heizman got a fist on it, knocking it over the goal.

The Peacocks controlled the first overtime, taking four shots to Augie's two. Neither team was able to find the net, sending the game into the second overtime.

Augie's best chance in the second overtime came when junior Katie Shandri passed a ball to wide open Jessie Huff, who had a clear path to the goal. Huff was called offsides on the play, and the game ended at 0-0.

Dally took seven shots in the game, five of which were on goal. Fourteen Vikings had at least one shot. Freshman goalkeeper Amanda Wagner collected five saves.

The Vikings are on the road again next weekend as they play Southwest Minnesota State at 1 p.m. on Saturday followed by Minnesota State at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
