The Augustana volleyball team beat Upper Iowa on Friday night in a five-set match in Fayetteville, Iowa. Augie dropped the first set 25-23 before winning the second 25-22. Augie lost the next set 25-22 before winning the last two 25-16 and 15-10.
The win improves the Vikings to 10-12 on the season and 5-5 in conference play. The Peacocks fall to 12-13 and 3-8 in the NSIC.
Set one remained close throughout, with Augie tying the score at 15-15 after a kill by freshman outside
Megan Bezdicek. The teams traded points until Augie took a 22-21 lead after a Peacock attack error. Upper Iowa tied the score but a kill by senior right side
Ellen Andrews gave Augie the 23-22 advantage. Augie wouldn't score another point though as the Peacocks earned the 25-23 win.
In set number two, the points also traded points for the majority. A kill by Upper Iowa tied the score at 19-19. Augie then outscored the Peacocks 6-3, ending the game at 25-22 on a kill by sophomore middle

In the third set, Upper Iowa took a 14-10 lead when Sara Vance served three points in a row. Augie battled back to within one at 18-17 thanks to a kill from Andrews. The Vikings were able to tie the score at 20-20 but the Peacocks scored four unanswered points and won the set 25-22.
Augie was able to force a game five after dominating set four. They built a lead at 18-15 before scoring seven points to Upper Iowa's one and took the set 25-16.
Augie took an early 5-1 lead in the fifth, and never looked back. The Vikings posted their best hitting percentage of the match (.391) in the fifth set and defeated the Peacocks 15-10.
Andrews led all hitters with a season-high 20 kills while Bezdicek added 12. Freshman setter
Dani Haley added 35 assists and freshman libero
Grace Sanders added 27 digs.
The Vikings will play again tomorrow at Winona State for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
