The Augustana soccer team went 1-1 this weekend after losing to Minnesota State in Mankato, Minn. on Sunday. The Vikings lost 3-1 to the Mavericks after being outshot 14-5.
Minnesota State improves to 10-2-1 on the season, and 6-2-1 in the NSIC. Augie falls to 5-6-5 overall and 2-3-4 in conference play.
Augie had a chance to score at the 16 minute mark when junior midfielder
Stephanie Goos took a shot that was blocked by a Minnesota State defender. The Mavericks struck first after Ann Kincaid took a pass from Gina Paletta and blasted it to the opposite corner of the goal 27:37 into the game.
Augie answered at 39:26 when
Katie Bowman scored her second goal of the season with a shot that deflected off of a Maverick defender to tie the score at 1-1.
Minnesota State took the lead again less than three minutes into the second half when Abby Maxson buried a shot that was sent to her at the corner of the goal.
At 74:45, Minnesota State took a 3-1 lead when Augie scored on their own goal, putting the game out of reach.
The Viking will play their final home games of the season, playing MSU Moorhead a 1 p.m. on Saturday followed by Minnesota, Crookston at 1 p.m. Sunday.
