The Augustana volleyball team fell 3-0 on Friday night to No. 1 Concordia-St. Paul in St. Paul, Minn. The set scores were 25-18, 25-8, 25-16.
The Vikings fall to 11-15 overall on the season, and 5-8 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Golden Bears remain unbeaten this season at 26-0 overall and 15-0 in the NSIC.
The Golden Bears got off to a 5-1 lead in the first set, thanks to a serving run by Megan Carlson. Augie pulled to within four at 9-5 thanks to a kill by sophomore outside hitter
Chantel Tengwall. Concordia-St. Paul's Christa Erickson then served 8 points in a row to increase the lead to 17-5.
With Concordia-St. Paul at game point at 24-11, Tengwall pounded another kill to give the Vikings the serve. Freshman setter
Breanna Brandt then served six points in a row to give the Vikings a chance at 24-18, but a kill by the Golden Bears destroyed their comeback hopes.
The Vikings struggled in set two, recording only seven kills with six errors. The poor hitting allowed Concordia-St. Paul to put together three long serving runs and kept the Vikings from scoring in double-digits.
The Golden Bears dominated the third set. Strong serving by the Golden Bears gave them a 6-0 advantage. The Vikings pulled to within two at 9-7 thanks to two Golden Bear attack errors and two kills by freshman right side hitter

Concordia-St. Paul slowly pulled away until another serving run by Carlson gave them game point at 24-14. Back-to-back kills from the Vikings moved the score to 24-16, but a kill by Carlson put the match away at 25-16.

Ellen Andrews led the Viking offense with 8 kills while Spatenka added 7.
The Vikings will play again this weekend taking on St. Cloud State tomorrow at 4 p.m.
