Kathrynn Jesperson of Elk River, Minn., has signed a national letter of intent to attend Augustana College and play for the women's tennis team, head coach
Marc Kurtz announced today.
Jesperson has played No. 1 singles for Elk River High School since her 8th grade year. Throughout her career she has amassed 213 varsity wins, which is a school record for both the men's and women's tennis programs. As a senior she posted a 43-1 record with her only loss coming in the semifinals of the Minnesota Class AA State Championships, where she finished third individually. Her efforts helped Elk River finish second in the team standings at the state tournament.
Jesperson was named her team's MVP for four straight seasons, and was 40-2 as a junior, finishing in fifth place at the state tournament. In her sophomore season she was 30-3 with a sixth place finish in state and was 30-2 as a freshman, finishing fifth in state.
Jesperson is a three-star recruit on
tennisrecruiting.net and she has consistently been ranked in the top 300 in the nation for her recruiting class.
"We are thrilled to have Katie sign for the 2010-11 season," Kurtz said. "She will be an excellent addition to Augustana both as a student and as an athlete. Katie will move in towards the top part of our lineup and add tremendous depth to our roster. She is extremely talented and has always been one of the top players in our section over the years."
