A 84-63 win over St. Cloud State Sunday night at the Sioux Falls Arena gave head women's basketball coach
Dave Krauth his 400
th career win. Krauth has been a head coach at Augustana for 21 seasons, where he has now amassed a career record of 400-186 with 10 NCAA tournament appearances.
The win also improves the Vikings to 3-1 on the season while St. Cloud State drops to 3-2.
The teams played an even first eight minutes, and a bucket by St. Cloud's Aaryn Booker locked the score at 11-11. The Huskies would not make another field goal for almost five minutes as the Vikings went on an 11-1 run to take a 22-12 lead with 8:22 to play in the half.
St. Cloud State was able to cut the deficit to six points with a 3-pointer by Lauren Carew, but Augie closed out the half by outscoring the Huskies 9-3, earning a 40-28 lead at half.
Augie came out on fire in the second, scoring 19 points to St. Cloud's three points in the first five minutes of the period to take a 59-31 lead. Quick transitions and strong defense by the Vikings kept the Huskies from coming close again, with Augie scoring 29 fast break points and St. Cloud only two.
Augie also distributed the ball well, recording 23 total assists and four Vikings scoring in double-digits.
Sophomore guard
Molly Hayes recorded her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 assists. She was 7 of 10 (70 percent) from the field. Junior guard
Megan Doyle narrowly missed a double-double of her own by scoring 15 points and tying a career-high with nine rebounds.
St. Cloud's Becca Friestleben led the Huskies with 17 points and Talisha Barlow added 12 points.
The Vikings will begin their conference schedule at home next weekend with games against U-Mary on Friday and Northern State on Saturday. Both games tip off at the Elmen Center at 6 p.m.
