Volleyball Loses Final Home Match of the Season

The Augustana volleyball team lost its final home game of the season Saturday night to Minnesota Duluth. The Bulldogs swept the Vikings 25-13, 25-23, and 25-21.
 
The loss drops Augie to 12-17 on the season and 7-8 in the NSIC. Minnesota Duluth is now 20-8 overall and 13-5 in conference play.
 
Augie stuck with the Bulldogs for the majority of the first set when an attack error by Minnesota Duluth put Augie within one at 11-10. The Bulldogs started to pull away, forcing the Vikings to call a timeout at 15-11, but Augie battled back and pulled to within two at 15-13. The Vikings would not score another point as the Bulldogs finished the set by score 10 unanswered points.
 
The Bulldogs got off to a fast start in set two, when a kill by Anna Zyvoloski moved the score to 10-4. Augie continued to fight and forced Minnesota Duluth to call a timeout after three kills in a row by senior right side Ellen Andrews made the score 14-9. The Vikings kept chipping away, and made the score 20-19 with the Bulldogs on top after a Minnesota Duluth attack error. Two service errors by the Vikings in the last five points prevented them from coming back, and the Bulldogs outlasted Augie 25-23.
 
Minnesota Duluth started hot again in the third, building a 6-1 lead. The Vikings were able to rebound though, and tied the score at 13-13 with another kill by Andrews. The Bulldogs started to pull away again, and four straight points by Minnesota Duluth moved the score to 24-20 and put the game out of reach for the Vikings.
 
Andrews led the Viking attack with 10 kills and junior outside Beth Talcott added seven. Freshman setter Dani Haley collected 20 assists.
 
The Vikings will play again on Tuesday in Wayne, Neb, at 7 p.m.
