Box Score

The Augustana women's basketball team came back from a 17-point halftime deficit, but had their nine game winning streak snapped in a 83-74 loss to Winona State Saturday night in Winona, Minn.

With the loss, the Vikings drop to 18-5 overall this season and 12-4 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play, while the Warriors improve to 19-5 overall and 12-5 in the NSIC.

In the early going, both teams matched each other point for point and after four minutes of play the game was tied at 8-8 after a Dani Arens jumper at the 16:07 mark.

From that point, the Vikings went cold, as the Warriors went on an 18-4 run over the next 10 minutes to take a 26-12 lead with 6:26 to play.

Winona State continued adding to their lead as the Vikings remained offensively quiet for the remainder of the half, going into halftime down 40-23.

Whitney Hofer had the lone highlight of the half, tying her season-high with 12 rebounds.

In the second half Kristi Board came off the bench to spark the Vikings offense, putting in three 3-pointers and a layup to put the score at 56-47 with 12:19 to go in the game.

The Vikings fed off of Board's play and surged to take the lead at 62-61 after a 3-point play by Chelsea DeVille, wiping away a 20-point deficit with 8:08 to play in the game.

Just as Augie was gaining momentum, Kelsey Homewood fired off four 3-pointers in less than three minutes to spoil the Vikings comeback, putting the score at 75-68 in favor of the Warriors with 4:16 left.

The Vikings did not get any closer, as the Warriors finished off Augie to split the season series with both teams winning at home.

Augustana finished the night shooting 41 percent on 29-of-70 shooting, while the Warriors made 30-of-72 shots, good for 42 percent.

Hofer finished the night with 12 points and had a season-high 16 rebounds, while Megan Doyle scored 14 points to go along with 4 assists and 3 rebounds.

Board finished with 14 points and 4 rebounds, going 4 for 5 from the 3-point line.

Homewood led all scorers with 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc.

Augustana will be back home to take on the University of Mary Friday at 6 p.m. in the Elmen Center.
