The Augustana women's basketball team ended their regular season with a 79-66 loss to the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs Saturday in Duluth, Minn.
With the loss, Augustana ends the regular season with a 19-8 overall record, while finishing 13-7 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Bulldogs improved to 16-11 overall and 13-7 in the NSIC with the win.
UMD came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, making a quick five field goals to start the game, including a pair of 3-pointers to get up 12-4 at the 17:00 mark.
The Vikings fought back to bring the game to 18-17 in favor of the Bulldogs at the 9:36 mark, but that was as close as Augie got all night, as UMD countered with a 11-0 run over the next four minutes to take 29-17 lead.
The Bulldogs, who came into the game shooting a NSIC-low 28 percent from the 3-point line this season, finished the first half shooting 5-of-6 from beyond the arc, while Jordann Even went 4-4 to take a commanding 39-25 lead into halftime.
UMD continued where it left off in the first half, going on a 14-4 run to start the second half, to take a 53-29 lead with 15:34 remaining in the game.
Augustana got to within 11 points late in the game, but the Bulldogs continued to pressure Augie, making 10-of-14 from the 3-point line in the game, while shooting 53.7 percent from the field.
The Vikings finished the night shooting 41.1 percent on 23-46 shooting, while going 7-20 from the 3-point line.
Amy Puthoff scored 15 points in the game to move past Julie Krauth (1989-93) for the No. 9 spot on the all-time Augustana scoring list with 1,329 points.
Megan Doyle also finished the night with 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting, while grabbing 3 rebounds.
Even finished the night scoring a game-high 17 points for the Bulldogs, on 5-of-7 shooting from the 3-point line.
The first round NSIC tournament game pairings will be announced following the conclusion of the NSIC men's games Saturday night.
