Augustana broke out the bats and stellar pitching as the Vikings swept Minnesota, Crookston in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Bowden Field. The Vikings won the opener 13-0 and the nightcap 8-0. Both games went 5 innings.
Augustana (7-16, 2-0 NSIC) pounded out 23 hits on the day to go along with the impressive pitching of
Mickey Anderson and
Chelsey Durland.
Anderson a sophomore from Norfolk, Neb., tossed her first career no-hitter in the second game of the twinbill. She walked 2 hitters and struck out 7 en route to improving to 2-2 on the season.
Durland had Minnesota, Crookston (0-12, 0-6 NSIC) baffled in the first game. She retired the first 6 hitters in order before giving up a leadoff single in the third inning. The Golden Eagles did not get another hit until picking up 3 hits in the fifth. Durland struck out 3 and did not issue a walk.
Durland, a freshman from Maple Plain, Minn., did her fair share of damage at the plate. She had only 1 hit in each game, but each was a home run. She hit a solo homer in the fourth inning of Game 1 and her 2-run blast in the fifth inning of Game 2 ended the contest due to the mercy rule.

Kelsey Kalkman had a 2-run single, while
Taylor Kapsch and
Traci Fransen each had 2-run doubles.
Kayla Henke, who went 3-for-4 with 2 runs and 2 RBI in the game, had an RBI double in the second inning.
The Vikings finished with 16 hits in the first game. Fransen, Kapsch, Ally Rutherford, Erin Bohlmann and Whitt Murray all had 2 hits.
The Vikings scored in 4 of 5 innings in the second game. Augustana plated 2 unearned runs in the bottom of the first when Murray lined a 2-out single to score Rutherford and
Britt Stewart.
In the third, Rutherford scored again on a fielder's choice hit by Kalkman. Augustana scored 3 runs on 3 doubles in the fourth.
