The Augustana softball team defeated St. Cloud State 7-5 and 10-2 in a double header at Bowden Field on Saturday. The Vikings won game one on a walk off home run by senior shortstop Ally Rutherford. With the wins, Augie improves to 25-21 overall and 16-5 in the NSIC. The Huskies drop to 20-35 and 7-15 in conference play.

In game one, the Vikings got off to a fast start. Erika Wolner walked but was thrown out at home on a double by Rutherford, but Rutherford advanced to third on the throw. Traci Fransen then homered to left field and the Vikings ended the first inning up 2-0.

Augie scored three more runs in the second. Elizabeth Murray singled to right center before a single by Kelsey Kalkman advanced Murray to second, who rolled her ankle on the play. A sacrifice bunt by Taylor Kapsch advanced both runners and Brittany Lipetzky came in to pinch run for the injured Murray. A double by Wolner scored both Lipetsky and Kalkman before Rutherford batted in Wolner with a single.

St. Cloud answered in the fourth inning when Lizzy Dwyer reached on an error by Augie's Britt Stewart. Melanie Upchurch reached on a fielder's choice, with Dwyer out at second. A home run by Sara Sbragia cut the Viking lead to 5-2.

The Huskies had another big inning in the fifth. Sarah Nohrenburg singled up the right field line before a Rachel Haines single advanced her to second. A ground out by Kelly Laas advanced both runners. Nohrenburg scored on a wild pitch by Chelsey Durland and Haines scored on a double by Sarah Stalker. Emily Edgerton singled to center field, bringing Stalker to third. The Vikings put Stewart in to pitch and Edgerton stole second. A single by Upchurch scored Edgerton and tied the score at 5-5.

Neither team scored in the sixth inning and Augie held St. Cloud to zero runs in the top of the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh, Wolner singled to right field before Rutherford hit a walk off home run to earn the Vikings the 7-5 win. 

Stewart earned the win for the Vikings. She went 2.2 innings and allowed no earned runs on two hits. She also posted two strikeouts.

In the first inning of game two, Wolner walked before scoring on the double by Rutherford. Bolhman then reached on an error by Sbragia, while Rutherford advanced to third and then scored on the throw. The Vikings took an early 2-0 lead.

Wolner led off the fourth inning with a double to left center. Rutherford walked and Wolner advanced to third on a wild pitch. Rutherford then stole second. Fransen walked and Bohlmann reached on a fielder's choice, with Wolner scoring on an error by the catcher. A single by Murray scored Rutherford and Fransen while advancing Bohlmann to third. A bunt by Kalkman plated Bohlmann and put the Vikings up 6-0.

The Huskies battled back in the fifth, scoring two runs. Katie Hendrickson was walked and then scored on a home run by Rachel Haines.

Augie closed out the game by scoring four runs in the sixth inning. Henke led the inning off with a homerun and Wolner followed it up with a double. Rutherford was walked before Fransen reached on a fielder's choice, with Wolner being thrown out at third. A single up the middle by Bohlmann scored Rutherford. Kalkman reached on an error and advanced to second on the throw. Bohlmann advanced to third and Fransen scored the ninth Viking run. A single by Durland scored Bohlmann. 

Kelly Ottis earned the win for the Vikings, allowing two runs on six hits in six innings of work. She also recorded six strikeouts. 

Rutherford was five for six on the day with four RBI. Wolner went four for six, including three doubles, and recorded two RBI.

The Vikings will be in action at home again tomorrow with a double header against Concordia-St. Paul. Game begins at 1 p.m.
