The Augustana soccer was defeated by Fort Lewis College (FLC), 4-0, at the Adams State Grizzly Classic Saturday in Alamosa, Colo.
The loss moves the Vikings to 1-1 on the season, while Fort Lewis improves to 2-0.
Fort Lewis got on the board early when Erika Shisler scored 3 minutes, 10 seconds into the match. Jamie MacArthur added another goal for FLC at the 30:59 mark. At 50:17, Hayley Hollenga, who led FLC with nine shots, scored the third goal, and again scored at the 69:04 mark for the final tally.
FLC kept the Viking defense busy all day. FLC had 30 shots, including 17 on goal. As in the first match,
Melissa Fowler and
Amanda Wagner each played a half at goalie. Fowler had eight saves, and Wagner tallied five.
The Viking offense registered six shots, including four on goal.
Leslie Walker led the team with two shots, including one on goal, while
Katie Shandri,
Lisa Shirk,
Stephanie Goos, and
Jenna Doerneman each had one.
The Vikings will next travel to Las Vegas, N.M., to face New Mexico Highlands University Sunday. The match is slated to start at noon Mountain Time.
