Augustana opened Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play by tying Concordia-St. Paul 2-2 in front of a school-record 362 fans in the first-ever game at the Augustana Soccer Complex.
Both teams are now 3-3-2 overall and 0-0-1 in the NSIC following the first conference game of the season.
Concordia struck first as Katie Johnson scored off an assist from Arielle Stimson at the 29:23 mark.
The Vikings knotted the score right before halftime when Alison Schmitt netted her first goal of the season at 44:29.
Alicia DeHaan and
Jenna Doerneman were credited with assists on the play.
Augustana took its first lead of the game at 68:55 off a direct kick.
Raelyn Walczak served the ball in front of the net where
Jessie Huff headed the ball into the net for her foruth goal of the year.
The Golden Bears tied the score at 74:01 when Kari Janes blasted a shot from 25 yards out that snuck into the goal over the outstretched arms of Augustana goalkeeper
Amanda Wagner.
Neither team had many scoring chances in overtime as Augustana outshot the visitors 3-1.
The Vikings controlled the statistics. Augustana outshot CU 22-14, including a 9-4 edge in shots on goal. In addition, Augie had 11 corner kicks, compared to 2 for the Golden Bears.
Augustana returns to the pitch on Sunday when the Vikings entertain St. Cloud State in a 1 p.m. contest.
