Viking Soccer Falls 2-1 in Overtime at U-Mary

The Augustana women's soccer team suffered its first conference loss in a 2-1 overtime setback to the University of Mary Sunday afternoon in Bismarck, N.D.

The Vikings slipped to 4-4-3 overall and 1-1-2 in NSIC play. U-Mary improved to 4-3-2 overall and 2-0-1 in league action. It was Augustana's sixth overtime game in its last eight contests.

Augustana struck first when Alicia DeHaan blasted an unassisted goal from 15 yards out to put the Vikings in front 1-0 at the 36:48 mark.

U-Mary tied the score early in the second half when Joanna Drennen bent a corner kick into the net past Augustana keeper Melissa Fowler at the 47:28 mark.

The Marauders ended the game with just 3 seconds left in the first overtime period. Megan Helrung scored from 25 yards out on a direct kick, beating Amanda Wagner on the play.

Wagner suffered the loss in net after relieving Fowler in the second half. Wagner made 4 saves, while Fowler had 6.

Augustana remains on the road next week when the Vikings travel to Wayne State on October 4 for a 1 p.m. game.
