The No. 25 Augustana volleyball fell to No. 9 Tampa University in their second match at the Colorado Premier Tournament on Friday. The Vikings were defeated earlier in the day by Northwest Nazarene.
The losses drops the Vikings to 3-4 on the season.
The Vikings lost the first game 25-20 as they tallied 11 kills and 7 errors to the Spartan's 16 kills and 7 errors. Augie battled in the second, losing 25-20 again and recording 16 kills. Tampa came out on fire in the third set, defeating Augie 25-15.
Tampa posted 12 team blocks to Augie's 3 and recorded 16 more kills than the Vikings in the victory.
Junior middle
Brianna Erickson had a team-high 9 kills for the Vikings. Freshman setter Brianna Brandt dished out 21 assists.
In the first game of the day, Augie jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first set thanks to back-to-back kills by senior outside
Jenna Hultgren. The Vikings held that lead until Northwest Nazarene tied the set at 19-19 with a kill from Stacy Draginis. The score was locked at 20 when the Crusaders scored four points in a row. Augie was unable to answer and Northwest Nazarene won 25-22.
The teams traded points in the second set until a serving run by Northwest Nazarene's Haley Hevern put the Crusaders up 15-11. A kill by freshman setter Brandt plus a block by freshman middle
Brooke Lewko and Hultgren pulled the Vikings to within two. The Vikings then committed two errors in a row, allowing the Crusaders to pull away and earn the 25-22 victory.
The Crusaders had a stong start in the third set, outscoring Augie 8-2. The quick beginning was too much for the Vikings to overcome as they were plagued by poor hitting, recording only 13 kills and 11 errors. Northwest Nazarene closed the set 25-18.

Ellen Andrews had 9 kills for the Vikings and freshman outside
Megan Bezdicek added 8. Hultgren had 7 kills to go along with 19 digs, and freshman libero
Grace Sanders had 21 digs.
The Vikings will play on Saturday at noon (MT) against Western Oregon.
