The Augustana women's basketball team earned its second win of the weekend with an 84-66 victory over Minnesota State University Saturday night at the Elmen Center. Leading the Viking effort were juniors Kristi Board and Megan Doyle, combining for 37 of Augie's points.
 
The win improves the Vikings to 15-3 overall and 9-2 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Mavericks drop to 10-8 and are now 5-6 in the conference.

The Vikings took a quick lead, outscoring the Mavericks 14-4 in the first five minutes of the game. Seven of those points came from Doyle.
 
The teams scored evenly for the next four minutes, until MSU went on a 8-2 run to cut into the Vikings lead and make the score 23-20 with 8:13 remaining in the half. Augie was able to build their lead back, and seven straight points by Board gave the Vikings a 38-28 advantage at the 4:23 mark.
 
Senior forward Liz Trauger sank a three followed by a layup, and the Vikings were 1 of 3 on free throws in the final minutes to end the half 39-33 in favor of Augie.
 
The Vikings shot 48.4 percent (15 of 31) from the floor in the first half, and were 42.9 percent (3 of 7) from 3-point range. MSU was 41.7 percent (15 of 36) shooting and made three of 12 (25 percent) from behind the arc.
 
The first half was cleanly played, with both teams committing only five turnovers each.
 
For the first three minutes of the second half, the teams traded buckets, until Trauger made a 3-pointer followed by another tre from freshman guard Sare Weins. Another basket by Trauger put the Mavericks pushing for the lead at 49-47 with 13:11 to play.
 
Augie built its lead back, going on a 12-4 run which included seven straight points by sophomore center Teri VerSteeg. Back-to-back threes from sophomore guard Liz Helsper and junior guard Tessa Wilka made the score 61-51 at the 10 minute mark.
 
The Vikings then blew the game wide open, scoring 12 unanswered points to take a 75-53 advantage with just under six minutes on the clock.

The Mavericks outscored the Vikings 13-9 in the final minutes, but it was too little, too late, giving Augie the victory.
 
Augie shot 53.2 percent (33 of 62) from the field and 40 percent (6 of 15) from 3-point range. In contrast, the Mavericks were just 35.3 percent (24 of 68) shooting and 28.6 percent (6 of 21) from behind the arc.
 
Doyle's 19 points led the offensive effort for the Vikings while Board added 18.
 
VerSteeg contributed 10 points, which matches her career-high, and Hayes poured in 10 points to go along with eight assists.
 
Trauger led all scorers with 23 points and senior guard Tiffany Moe added 14 points and Ali Wilkinson scored 10.
 
The Vikings will be on the road again next weekend as they take on Concordia-St. Paul at 6 p.m. on Friday followed by a 4 p.m. matchup with St. Cloud State on Saturday.
