Upper Iowa drops Augustana 2-1 in double overtime

FAYETTE, Iowa - Upper Iowa rallied from a 1-0 deficit and pushed the match to double overtime before scoring the game winning goal in the 107th minute to top Augustana 2-1 Saturday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference soccer in Fayette, Iowa.

UIU moves to 6-2-0 (2-2-0 NSIC), while Augustana falls to 3-4-2 (2-1-1 NSIC).

The Vikings opened scoring deep into the first period when Stacy Dally punched in her third goal in the last two matches in the 37th minute to give Augustana a 1-0 lead.

The Peacocks evened the match at 1-1 in the second period after Valeria Ptasinski found the back of the net off a corner kick in the 60th minute.

The score would stay knotted at one apiece at the end of regulation and at the end of the first overtime period.

UIU's Emily Gielau put the gamewinner home on a free kick in the 107th minute to drop the Vikings.

The match was Augustana's fifth double overtime contest this season.  The Vikings have yet to leave the pitch with a win in that scenario, having lost three and tied two.

Stephanie Goos and Katie Hurd each had four shots for the Vikings.  Dally's one shot attempt resulted in her goal.

The Peacocks peppered Augustana goalkeeper Amanda Wagner with 11 shots on goal.  She stopped nine of them in the loss.

UIU outshot Augustana 22-17.

The Vikings continue play tomorrow at Winona State at 1 p.m.
