Vikings pick up sweep against U-Mary

- Jordan Spatenka had 10 kills and Dani Haley handed out 33 assists to help Augustana record a 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-18) victory over U-Mary Friday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball in Sioux Falls, S.D.  

Spatenka added three service aces and two block solos to top of the night.

Taylor Hrdlichka and Brooke Lewko followed close behind, recording nine and eight kills, respectively.

Grace Sanders dug up 18 balls for the Vikings.

The Marauders clung close to the Vikings in the opening set, tying the score seven times before Augustana was able to take the lead off a six point run. The Vikings finished off U-Mary 25-15 with a pair of kills by Chantel Tengwall and Brooke Lewko .

U-Mary had the upper hand early in the following set but it didn't last long as Augustana would cruise to a 25-19 victory. Spatenka had five kills to add to the 16 the Vikings racked up during the set.

U-Mary would stay even with the Sioux again early on in the third set, squaring things at 10-10, but a 17-13 run by the Vikings would end any hopes the Marauders had of pushing the match into four sets.

The sweep was the fourth of the season during conference play for Augustana.

The Vikings tallied seven blocks, while holding U-Mary to just three.

In an effort to raise money for breast cancer research and help support victims, survivors and families, Augustana's volleyball team is hosting a “Dig Pink” event during its match against Northern State on Saturday at 4 p.m.
