Augustana downs Minnesota State Moorhead 3-1

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Augustana followed up yesterday's dominating victory with a 3-1 win this afternoon over Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference opponent Minnesota State Moorhead in Moorhead, Minn.

After this weekend's two wins the Vikings improve to 7-7-2 (6-4-1 NSIC), while MSUM is 1-13-1 (1-9-1 NSIC).

Stephanie Goos led all players with three shots on goal.

Jessie Huff recorded two shots on goal.

Kate Timmons tended the goal for Augustana, making seven saves in the afternoon.

It didn't take long for action to begin as MSUM opened the match scoring at 3:58.

Maren Werth answered back with a shot into the net at 13:10 to lift her amount of goals for the season to three.

The Vikings would score again at 22:37 by Stephanie Goos off an assist by Raelyn Walczak to gain a 2-1 advantage in the match.

Both teams were active offensively during the first period. Augustana tallied eight shots, while the Dragons had seven.

The Vikings' defense pressed MSUM in the following period, holding the Dragons to just one shot.

Of the four shots Augustana made in the second period, Jessie Huff was able to kick one by MSUM's Carole Braschayko to score at 59:42 and secure the Vikings' lead.  Goos had the assist.  

This marks the first time this season the Vikings have finished a weekend undefeated against NSIC opponents. 

Regular season action will conclude for Augustana on the road Oct. 30 and 31 against St. Cloud State and Concordia-St. Paul. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
