WINONA, Minn. – Augustana's Stephanie Goos had six shots against Winona State in an effort record a win against the Warriors Sunday afternoon in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference soccer contest in Winona, Minn. Goos' effort would fall short however, as WSU's Jordyn Strege recorded the only goal of the match four minutes into overtime to break a scoreless tie and lead the Warriors to a 1-0 victory over the Vikings.
The loss moves Augustana to 3-5-2 (2-2-1 NSIC), while WSU improves to 7-3-0 (4-1-0 NSIC).
The Vikings had a total of 17 shots on the afternoon, with 10 on goal. The Warrior offense collected 25 shots and kept Augustana goalkeeper Amanda Wagner busy with eight on goal.
Wagner made seven saves for the Vikings.
Goos had three scoring opportunities during the first period. One of which came two minutes before the half off a corner kick but WSU's Anna Belpedio made the save.
Offensively, Winona slowed down in the second period, taking only nine shots compared to 15 during the first half. Augustana remained steady in both periods, recording eight followed by nine.
Both Augustana and WSU had one shot in overtime, but it was the Warriors shot that found its way past Wagner.
The overtime loss is the fourth of the season for the Vikings.
Augustana will be back in action Oct. 8 at 4 p.m. against Minnesota State at home, followed by another home match against Southwest Minnesota State on Oct. 10 at 1 p.m.
