BOX SCORE

MANKATO, Minn. -
No. 16 Minnesota State recorded 42 kills--14 per set--to chart a 3-0 (25-16,25-18,25-20) victory over Augustana Saturday afternoon in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball in Makato, Minn.

Augustana is now 9-9 (5-4 NSIC), while the Mavericks move to 13-4 (5-4 NSIC).

No Viking reached double-figure kills in this afternoon's match but Lindsey Petersen recorded eight to lead Augustana.

Grace Sanders recorded 10 digs.

Dani Haley tallied 29 assists.

MSU opened the set with a kill and a service ace but the Vikings answered back with a kill from Taylor Hrdlichka. A tie at 2-2 was the only knot in the score during the set as Augustana wasn't able to win a series of points and recover from an early deficit. With the Vikings down 23-15 Brianna Erickson recorded a kill in an effort to make a comeback but MSU would finish the set after striking two kills.

The Vikings battled point for point at the start of the second set until 7-7 when MSU made an eight point run. Behind a strong offensive the Mavericks continued to create a gap in the score. Augustana had a few mini runs throughout the set to edge the deficit but the Vikings went on to lose 25-18.

The Mavericks rattled off three straight points in the ensuing set. Augustana was able to find a rhythm of three points to create a tie at 6-6. The Vikings would then have leads at 7-6 and 8-7 but the gains were never enough as MSU would come back and push away for the advantage. The Vikings continued to remain right on the heels of the Mavericks with a pair of kills from Petersen. However, the comeback was never stabilized and MSU won the final set 25-20.

The Vikings fared better than the Mavericks in attack errors, making 12 as opposed to MSU's 15.

Augustana recorded a .196 hitting percentage. MSU's was .347.

Another pair of away matches awaits the Vikings Oct. 15 and 16 against Minnesota State Moorhead at 7 p.m. and Minnesota, Crookston at 4 p.m.
