BEMIDJI, Minn. – A goal late in the second period by No. 3-seeded Bemidji State led the Beavers to a 2-1 victory over No. 6-seeded Augustana Wednesday afternoon in the opening round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament in Bemidji, Minn.
The Vikings finish their season with a record of 8-9-2. BSU moves to 14-3-1 and will play the winner of tonight's match between Minnesota Duluth and U-Mary.
Stephanie Goos scored Augustana's only goal in the second period.
Jessie Huff and
Maren Werth both led the Vikings with four shots each.
Amanda Wagner made seven saves.
BSU opened scoring at 5:46. The lone goal in the first period was off the Beavers' second of 19 shots. Augustana trailed BSU with nine shots in the period.
Goos booted in a cross from the right to knot the score at 1-1 in the 60th minute. Werth assisted Goos in the goal.
BSU's Jenny Stromberg took a shot from in the box in the 82nd minute and found the back of the net to score her sixth goal of the season and give the Beavers a late lead they would hold onto.
The Beavers finished the afternoon with 30 shots, while the Vikings had 19.
The match was the final for Augustana seniors
