FAYETTE, Iowa - Augustana was led by
Brianna Erickson to a 3-0 (25-17, 29-27, 25-23) victory over Upper Iowa on Friday night in Fayette, Iowa, as the Vikings continued Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference volleyball action.
The sweep over the Peacocks improves Augustana to 13-14 (9-9 NSIC). UIU is now 8-18 (5-12 NSIC).
The Vikings outhit the Peacocks .291 to .116 as Erickson led the way, posting a sparkling 13 kills to hit .591. The hitting percentage is a new match-high for Erickson.
Taylor Hrdlichka added 10 kills.
Grace Sanders recorded 18 digs, and
Dani Haley had 40 assists.
Augustana advanced to an early 9-2 lead in the opening set. Behind the serve of
Christine Bielski, Augustana closed the set off a seven-point run. The Vikings hit .350 to easliy coast to a 25-17 win.
The Vikings and the Peacocks went back-and-forth in the following set before Augustana tallied the final two points off a kill from
Taylor Hrdlichka and a service ace from
Kayla Wallerich to cap the set 29-27.
The final set was close as well. Neither team advanced to an early lead and as a result the score was closely knit during the whole set.
Chantel Tengwall recorded her second kill of the set to allow the Vikings to clinch a two-point lead and grab the set 25-23.
The Vikings will continue NSIC action on the road Saturday against Winona State for a 4:30 p.m. match.
