FINAL RESULTS
BROOKINGS, S.D. – Augustana got runner-up finishes from
Jay Sherer,
Marcus Edgington,
Carl Serck and
Ty Copsey Saturday afternoon at the Daktronics Open hosted by South Dakota State in Brookings, S.D.
Sherer finished the day 3-1 to take second at 141 pounds. He fell to Minnesota's Seth Lange in the championship bout.
Edgington, who wrestled unattached, went 2-1 at 157 pounds and met North Dakota State's Vince Salminen in the title bout, where he dropped a 3-1 decision.
Serck made his way to the title bout at 174 pounds before falling to South Dakota State's David Michaud by fall in 2:33. Serck wrestled unattached and charted a 3-1 campaign on the day.
Copsey went 2-1 at 197 pound en route to his second-place accolades. Iowa Central's Nick Pica took a 3-1 decision from Copsey in the title bout.
The Vikings had another 10 place winners.
At 125 pounds,
Al Meger went 5-2 to grab fourth-place honors, while
Cody Lensing (unattached) and Jeremiah Petersen (unattached) each picked up four wins to place third and fifth, respectively.
Nate Herda wrestled his way to third place at 149 pounds, defeating South Dakota State's Dustin Walraven 6-1 in the third-place bout.
Chism Fink took fourth in the same weight class, going 5-2 on the afternoon.
Austin Carmichael posted a 3-3 mark at 157 pounds to take sixth place, while
Gavin Nelson (unattached) garnered third-place accolades at 165 pounds after going 5-1. He defeated Nebraska-Omaha's Nick Sigman 1-0 in the third-place bout.
Sean Derry earned a fifth-place finish at 174 pounds by posting a 4-2 record.
Darcy Huffman was a sixth-place finisher at 184 pounds; he went 1-2 on the day.
Lance Peters also took sixth at 285 pounds, going 3-3.
The Vikings return to action at the Dakota Wesleyan Open next Saturday.
