MSU Moorhead knocks off No. 16 Augustana

BOX SCORE

MOORHEAD, Minn. - Minnesota State Moorhead rallied from an 11-point second-half deficit and held Augustana to one field goal in the final five minutes to knock off the No. 16 Vikings 63-60 Saturday night in Moorhead, Minn.

MSUM moves to 7-2 (4-1 NSIC), while Augustana snaps its four-game winning streak and falls to 11-2 (4-2 NSIC).

The Dragons hit the go-ahead bucket with 1:35 left when Brittany Mayclin drained her 3-pointer. Her basket would be the last of the game by either team.

The Vikings, though, did have chances down the stretch, but MSUM extended its final possession of the game with a pair of offensive rebounds by Abby Reiter, and Molly Hayes' 3-pointer with two seconds left was off the mark for Augustana.

The Dragons were led by Betsy Dickson and Reiter, who each scored 10 points.

Augustana got a big night from Alex Feeney as the sophomore netted a career- and game-high 22 points. She also totaled four blocks and six rebounds. Megan Doyle and Kristi Board added 11 each for the Vikings. Doyle also snared nine rebounds.

The Vikings led 39-31 at the half and were owners of an 11-point lead with 9:50 left in the contest. But the Dragons closed the game on a 17-3 run.

While the Vikings never earned themselves a double-figure lead in the first half--despite 16 points from Feeney--they never trailed. Their largest advantage came just before the break after Feeney drilled a 3-pointer.

Augustana was comfortable for the first 10 minutes of the second half, building an 11-point lead at 46-57 via a Doyle bucket at the 9:50 mark.

However, the Dragons would mount their game-winning run from there, getting eight points from Reiter down the stretch and using the junior for a pair of huge offensive rebounds that continued MSUM's last possession and effectively kept the ball out of the hands of the Vikings.

The Vikings finished 9 of 27 from behind the arc and shot 33.9 percent from the field in the loss. The final five minutes saw Augustana go 1 of 7.

The Vikings are idle until the new year when they host St. Cloud State and Concordia University, St. Paul on Jan. 1 and 2.
