Box Score

Six days after charging back from a double digit deficit to win in the last second, the Augustana men's basketball team found itself in the same situation late in the game at the University of Mary, but this time was not able sustain a run to duplicate last Saturday's effort. The Vikings dropped its second game to U-U-Mary this season, 71-59, Friday night in Bismarck, N.D.

The Vikings dropped to 19-5 overall and 12-5 in the league, while U-Mary improved to 14-10, 10-7 in the league.

Augie outgained U-Mary in several statistical categories. The Vikings out-rebounded the Marauders 39-32, had four fewer turnovers, and made as many free throws (20-of-23) as U-Mary had trips to the line (14-of-20).

However, despite the Augustana advantages, U-Mary held a distinct advantage in field goal percentage, outshooting the Vikings 49 percent (24-of-49) to 32.2 percent (19-of-59). The Vikings also recorded a season low for made three-point field goals and three-point shooting percentage, scoring one basket from behind the arc on 21 attempts (4.8 percent).

Throughout the game, each onset of an Augie run was quenched by the Marauders. U-Mary opened up an early lead that Augie was able to cut to two at 9-7 when Jordan Dalton scored a layup at the 12:46 mark of the first half. For the remainder of the half, U-Mary outscored the Vikings 26-13, including 11 points from Eric Erdmann, to take a 35-20 lead into halftime.

U-Mary extended its lead to 21 at the 15:03 mark with a three-pointer from game-high scorer Jordan Wilhelm, and kept the lead at double digits the remainder of the game. Augie cut the deficit to a dozen four times in the final three minutes, but U-Mary went 5-of-6 from the free throw line over that span to keep the Vikings at bay and secure the win.

The Vikings were lead in scoring and rebounding by Cody Schilling, who recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Cameron McCaffrey and Ethan Thomforde each contributed 11 points.

Wilhelm scored 23, Erdmann poured in 17 and Anthony Moody tallied 15 points for the Marauders.
