Game 2 Box Score

The Augustana baseball team scored a total of 31 runs on Sunday as they completed a series sweep of Bemidji State. After winning both games on Saturday the Vikings beat the Beavers 12-5 and 19-5.

The Vikings are now 20-10 on the season and 8-0 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Bemidji State falls to 10-15 and 1-7 in the league.

Game two was all about the third inning for the Vikings. BSU's Ryan Geber loaded the bases with Vikings and walked a run in as Nate Hewes drew the walk. Three errors by the Beavers allowed Augie to score 11 runs on seven hits in the inning.

Augie also scored six runs in the second inning. Gates Cook doubled to right center before Derek Hansen homered to right field. Nate Baumann also sent one over the right field fence followed by Drew Heithoff, who hit the third home run of the inning for the Vikings. Deryk Marks singled to center and Charlie Dubanoski stepped up to the plate to belt the fourth homer.

Augie also scored two runs in the first inning to total 19 in the game.

Grant Larson (4-0) earned the win for Augie. He allowed only one earned run in four innings and struck out five batters.

The Beavers jumped ahead right away in the first game as Nic Jelacie was hit by a pitch to lead off the first. A sacrifice bunt by Dan Bauer moved him to second before a flyout by Joe Chism advanced him to third. Jelacie scored on an Augustana throwing error.

The Vikings scored one run in each of the second and third innings. Dan Morrison scored in the second as he was driven in on a double by Derek Hansen. In the third, Nate Baumann singled followed by a single from Drew Heithoff. Baumann scored on a sacrifice fly by Marks.

A leadoff home run by the Beavers in the fourth locked the score at 2-2, but the Vikings scored another run in the fifth and two in the sixth to take a 5-2 lead.

The Augustana offense then really got rolling in the seventh and the eighth. Heithoff led the seventh off with a single and then stole second. A bomb to left field by Marks put the Vikings up 7-2. Morrison then singled to left field and scored on a double by Nate Alfson.

They kept rolling in the eighth as BSU releiver Ryan Guy walked Nate Hewes. Hewes stole second and then went on the third on the throwing error by Guy. Baumann also walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch with Hewes also scoring on the play. Baumann stole third and scored when Marks blasted his second home run of the game. He was followed by Charlie Dubanoski, who also sent one over the left field fence.

Bemidji State scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth, but neither team scored in the ninth, making the final 12-5.

Tyson Gau (2-0) earned the win for the Vikings. He allowed five earned runs on seven hits in 7.2 innings. He also struck out six batters.

Marks was 5-of-8 with five RBI while Heithoff went 4 of 8 with three RBI.

The Vikings will play again on Thursday at Ronken Field for a 3 p.m. matchup with Morningside College.
