The Augustana baseball team lost a non-conference matchup to cross-town foe University of Sioux Falls 7-3 Tuesday night at Ronken Field. With the loss, the Vikings dropped to 22-16.

Despite scoring three runs on the night, Augustana had several opportunities to score on the evening, as the Vikings tallied 14 men left on base (LOB), with at least one LOB eight of the nine innings.

Twice the Vikings left the bases loaded. In the eighth inning, Augie made a 2-out rally. In the fifth inning, Sam Gotham singled to bring in one run, but Chris Glynn popped up to end the inning. In the eighth, Nate Baumann and Drew Heithoff were hit by pitches and Deryk Marks walked to load the bases, but USF was able to get slugger Charlie Dubanoski to pop out to end the inning again.

Baumann went 2-for-4 on the night, including an RBI that gave Augie a 2-1 lead in the top of the second. However, USF capitalized in the bottom half of the inning, scoring on a Borges triple and a Minich sacrifice fly to regain the lead 3-2.

Nick Seliski picked up the loss for Augie, his first decision of the season. He threw two innings, giving up four earned runs on three hits while walking two. Tyler Pierson, David Foster and Luke Larson all saw action for the Vikings.

The Vikings return to conference play on Wednesday when the Vikings face Wayne State at Ronken Field. The doubleheader is slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.
