Game 2 Box Score

The Augustana softball team posted two 4-2 wins over U-Mary Sunday in Bismarck, N.D.

The Vikings have won 31 games this season, matching their total number of victories from a year ago. They have also won 30-plus games for the second year in a row, and their current win streak is at four.

Following U-Mary posting a 1-0 lead in the first, defense kept Augie in the game until they could get the bats going. The Marauders stranded 13 runners, including seven in extra innings.

Britt Stewart, who went 4-for-6 in the two contests, hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth to tie the game 1-1. The home run was Augie's 35th of the season.

Both teams could not muster a run until the ninth, when Kelsey Kalkman singled home Chelsi Winskowski. However, U-Mary answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning, and the game continued.

In the 10th, the Vikings took control. Taylor Kapsch walked to start the inning and was moved to second and third bases on consecutive sacrifices. Elizabeth Murray's ground out scored Kapsch, and Traci Fransen singled in Kayla Henke for the insurance run.

Augie held U-Mary scoreless in the bottom half of the inning, and the Vikings improved to 2-2 in extra inning contests.

Ashley Meyer threw the complete game win (12-3). She scattered 12 Marauder hits and gave up one earned run while striking out four. Meyer's ERA in 17 appearances is a team-low 1.32.

The second game began as the first, with U-Mary posting a run in the bottom of the first.

However, Augie wasted little time in gaining and building the lead. In the top of the fourth, Stewart's double scored Shelby Thompson, and Chelsey Durland singled in Stewart. In the fifth, Murray doubled to score Henke, and Stewart singled home Murray.

U-Mary added a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth, but Stewart, who threw the complete game four-hitter, allowed only one hit the remainder of the game to secure the win. The victory improved Stewart's record to 11-2

The Vikings return home for five consecutive doubleheaders, beginning with a showdown with Southwest Minnesota State on Wednesday. The first game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
