With a strong all-around performance on Thursday, the Viking softball team completed a two-game sweep of the University of Sioux Falls at Bowden Field. Augie won 12-1 and 8-0.

The wins improve the Vikings to 24-5 on the season while the Cougars drop to 1-15.

Game one was all about the second and fourth innings for the Vikings. 

Traci Fransen led the second inning off with a home run, and Kelsey Kalkman followed it shortly with a bomb of her own. Chelsey Durland and Brittany Coufal hit back-to-back doubles allowing Durland to score on a sacrifice fly by Shelby Thompson

Kayla Henke kept the inning rolling with a double to center field which scored Coufal. A double by Jenny Brown scored Henke, giving the Vikings a 5-0 lead.

The Vikings would score seven runs on six hits in the seventh inning, making the final score 12-1.

Durland went all five innings, earning the win. She allowed only four hits and one earned run while striking out five batters.

Mickey Anderson recorded the shutout in the second game, only allowing three hits.

The Vikings kept their bats going strong, with Henke blasting a double to get things going in the third. Another double by Winskowski scored Henke. She advanced to third on a groudout before scoring on a wild pitch. Traci Fransen was walked and eventually brought home on a double by Kelsey Kalkman.

Coufal then led the fourth innnig off with a walk and Taylor Kapsch came in to pinch run. She stole second. Thompson then singled and advanced to second on the throw, which allowed Kapsch to reach third. She eventually scored on a groundout by Winskowski.

Murray was walked and Fransen was hit by a  pitch, loading the bases for the Vikings. A single by Stewart scored both Kalkman and Thompson. A single by Kalkman then brought Fransen and Stewart in.

Anderson earned her first win of the season, going all five innings and striking out three batters.

Kalkman was 6-for-6 on the day with five RBI a double and a home run.

Durland was 4-for-6 with two doubles. 

The Vikings will be in action again this weekend as they play Wayne State on Saturday. Game is scheduled for noon.
