SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -
Augustana rallied from a 1-0 deficit and scored the match's final three goals to roll past Dakota Wesleyan 3-1 Friday night in exhibition action at the Augustana Soccer Field.

The exhibition contest was the Vikings' first intersquad competition of the year.

DWU opened scoring in the first two minutes of action to quickly jump out to a 1-0 lead.

However, Augustana answered back three minutes later when Jill Goodrich took a corner kick from Stephanie Goos to knot the contest at 1-1.

The Vikings pushed in the go-ahead score at 34:12 after Kate Timmons headed in a pass from Maren Werth.

Jessie Huff scored the second period's only goal, finding the back of the net with the help of Leslie Walker with five minutes remaining in regulation to extend the Viking lead to 3-1.

The Vikings finished with 11 shots on goal.

Augustana's Amanda Wagner had a solid outing in the net; she stopped eight balls in the win.

“After three days of training it was good to see all our players in a very competitive game,” said fifth-year head coach Brandon Barkus. “I thought we could have dictated the tempo better, but I was extremely happy with our fitness and am excited about our depth.”

Twenty-six players saw the field for the Vikings.

“Exhibition games are meant to get the nerves out,” said Jill Goodrich, whose goal erased a 1-0 deficit early in the first period. “We have a lot to improve on, but for our first time playing together we saw a lot of good things.”

Augustana will play two more exhibitions against Missouri Western State on Aug. 27 at 2 p.m. and Nebraska-Omaha on Aug. 28 at noon. Augustana ushers in regular season play in Durango, Colo., on Sept. 3 at 4:30 p.m. against Mesa State (Colo.). Sept. 18 marks the first conference match for the Vikings as they host the University of Mary at 11 a.m.
